Description:

Governments, the private sector and farmer organizations increasingly have at their disposal tools to look across the range of challenges facing a country, and work together to identify solutions. Recent research has developed tools to implement global-to-local analyses. A global-to-local approach favors the identification of constraints but also of climate opportunities. A few recent examples indicate that policymakers have been receptive to these approaches and information. However, research that is fully engaged with end users poses challenges. It is still unclear what the most useful forms of engagement – the information that is truly needed by policymakers – are.

The exploration of these issues is the objective of this forum – bringing together the latest insights from researchers and decisionmakers who operate at multiple scales, from global to local. The landscape approach naturally connects multiple perspectives and a very diverse set of needs. What is the information needed by policymakers to implement plans based on solid science? What is the information that could facilitate dialogue among the actors who have to implement and live with the outcomes of these plans?

Key questions addressed:

  1. Why is this approach important (e.g., what are its major expected benefits compared to other approaches)?
  2. What are the main barriers and opportunities for upscaling CSA as a tool to achieve healthy landscapes, and what are its challenges in the short and medium term?
  3. What is the main recommendation we could give to national governments to assist them in scaling up CSA and healthy landscapes?
