Secretary of Environment and Regional Development of the State of Jalisco, Mexico

María Magdalena Ruiz Mejía is Secretary of Environment and Regional Development of the State of Jalisco, Mexico. Previously she served as Secretary of Environment and Ecology of the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, and lecturer on the environment, sustainability and natural resources at the university ITESO. She also works as a speaker on environmental topics. Ms. Ruiz received the Pro Habitat award in Mexico (responsible consumption) and the award for protecting the environment from the Mexican Association Citizens for the Environment. She coordinated the Environmental Education and Preservation of the Barranca Oblatos-Huentitán Area Project; within the Natural Resources Department of Guadalajara’s City Hall she was Environmental Education Coordinator. She was also the Chief of the La Primavera Forest Protection Project and a member of the Interdisciplinary Program for Environmental Education of Universidad de Guadalajara.
