The transition to a green economy is gaining momentum in many countries, and sustainable landscapes are at the heart of this new economic paradigm that focuses on natural capital, ecosystem services, resource efficiency, and social equity. The Forum will explore what the ‘landscapes of the future’ could look like, and how we can generate private and public sector finance for landscapes that provide multiple ecosystem services, are more resilient and productive, and create green jobs and sustainable livelihoods. The case studies to be presented will include REDD+ finance from the Fund for REDD+ in Indonesia, and a PES scheme in Mexico that was generated by local communities.

Key questions the Forum will address:

  1. What role do landscapes play in a green economy transition? How can this be reflected in the SDGs?
  2. Who can finance and who benefits from the ideal landscape of the future?
  3. What are the key challenges and opportunities for the required transition?
